From AquaPedia Case Study Database
Described as:
- "hydropower" is not in the list of possible values (Dam, Aqueduct/canal/transmission system, Irrigation, Wastewater Treatment, Drinking Water Treatment, Hydropower, Storage, Desalination Project) for this property.
Construction of the Itaipu Dam began in 1973 and completed in 1991. Community conflicts arose during the construction of the project due to little or no compensation to those who were displaced. However, after involvement from joint planning between the Brazilian and Paraguayan governments the major ecological and social impacts were mitigated.[1]
